Copyright protection of images on the Internet: photographers bring an action against Google

In the United States photographers and illustrators brought an action against Google in order to protect their copyrights on the images published on the Internet. In particular, the action has been filed by the American Society of Media Photographers and by three other professional organizations and relates to the digitization program launched by the Google Books Library Project. In fact, some images are contained in the pages of the volumes in the archives of online search engines: therefore photographers claim the protection of their copyright following the scanning of books for distribution and online publications. The decision is expected to be issued in February 2011.
