UK IPO announces new online TM information service

The UK Intellectual Property Office has announced that it will be introducing an online tool that allows users to access more information and documents on UK trade marks. This will in particular include information and documents relating to trade mark oppositions and will be useful for trade mark practitioners and trade mark applicants alike. Following the success of the recent introduction of a similar service ("IPSUM") for UK patents, the UK IPO now aims to provide a similar service for trade marks, with a planned launch date of some time later in 2012. It will in many ways be similar to the service currently offered by OHIM for access to documents relating to Community trade marks. Interestingly, the UK IPO aims to make the system more publicly accessible than the OHIM MyPage service.
