The Pope Claims Copyright

The Vatican State has requested the conviction of a trader for violating the law by selling counterfeit souvenirs that represented the image of the Pope and the papal coat of arms without the consent of the Holy See. In 2018, in fact, the Holy See started a campaign to defend the papal copyright with the aim of repressing the commercial use of the brand.
The trader was acquitted because the Pope’s coat of arms is not comparable to high fashion brands.
It has also been questioned whether the same can enjoy the protections of a commercial brand because its purpose is not to create profit.
For the reasons of the sentence it will be necessary wait, but with this judgment the discipline on the protection of the copyright can be reformed
