The French Court reduced the fine for eBay

The Court of Appeal in Paris significantly reduced, from €38.5 millions to €5.7 millions, the fine that eBay will have to pay to LVMH. In June 2008, eBay was in fact condemned to pay a fine for having allowed counterfeited goods of LVMH to be sold on its website. Both parties welcomed the decision, which is the last one of a series of disputes between the two companies. LVMH holds the decision an important step toward the protection of consumers, as it has been recognized eBay's guilt of having kept counterfeited goods on its website, especially “Louis Vuitton” and “Christian Dior” bags. eBay appreciated the fact that its responsibility was restricted to the French website, stating also that the dispute has always been directed to prevent the online buying and the selling of authentic LVMH goods.
