TRADEMARKS - Second Life fights against the illegal exploitation of trademarks

With a press release issued August 12th, 2009, the Linden manager for e-commerce has announced that it will be prohibited on sStreetSL, the e-commerce site of Second Life, to sell avatar who impersonated celebrities or characters protected under copyright or virtual objects reproducing clothing, furniture or car whose designs or copyright is owned by others. This amendment to the Guidelines for xStreetSL was adopted in response to the outcry raised by the sale on the site of the avatars of Jolie and Barak Obama and the trial Taser / Second Life in relation to trade marks. The trademark owners are now more reassured about their rights protection on the vitrual platform.
