Seizure of Italian cheeses protected by Indication of Origin

During the ANUGA world fair of food, held in Cologne between 5 and 9 October, counterfeited Italian cheeses protected by Indication of Origin were seized . The attempt of infringement has been foiled thanks to the joint initiative of the Consortiums of Protection of the cheeses Parmigiano Reggiano, Asiago and Pecorino Romano that applied for and obtained by the German authorities the immediate seizure of fake Parmigiano Reggiano, Asiago and Pecorino Romano produced by a U.S. company. This edition of the fair Anuga was characterized by a large number of pirate companies that have used every means, such as Italian sounding names or even tricolor flags, to offer infringing well-known Italian cheeses, protected products or even unprotected delicacies recalling Italy (for example the pizza "Italissimo", a brand of the German company Hasa).
