Registration of domain names suffixed ‘.asia’ will be open in few days, to special advantage of anyone planning activity into such region, and willing to have their registered trademarks rights on their Asian domain protected. Domains ‘.asia’ registrations are restricted. In order to be eligible for an ‘.asia’ domain, at least one of the Domain Contacts associated with the Domain Name must be an existing legal entity in the list of 73 Asian Countries named within the DotAsia Charter Eligibility Requirement Policy. Domains ‘.asia’ registrations subsequent phases are scheduled as follows: 1. As from October 9, 2007 (namely, Sunrise 1) open to governments; 2. As from October 9, 2007 (namely, Sunrise 2) open to trademark owners, by separate deadlines depending on which titles are claimed; 3. As from November 13, 2007 (namely, Sunrise 3) open to legal identities in Asia Community; 4. As from February 2008 (namely, Landrush) fully open on condition that at least one of the Domain Contacts associated with the Domain Name is an existing legal entity in the list of 73 Asian Countries. A competitive bidding procedure will be started for multiple applications for identical domain names; 5. As from March 2008 (namely, Live First Come – First Served), fully open on condition that at least one of the Domain Contacts associated with the Domain Name is an existing legal entity in the list of 73 Asian Countries. Applications will be examined and registrations will be approved on filing date basis.
