By August 13, 2012, it will be mandatory for all professionals in the medical, technical, economic and legal affairs fields to sign an insurance policy to cover professional indemnity. Thank to this insurance, both the client and the professional will be protected from mistakes due to the professional’s gross or slight negligence. Obviously damages caused by willful misconduct are not covered by the insurance. It will also be required, at the moment of the appointment, to carefully inform the client about the details of the insurance policy and its maximum coverage. This brand new law has already been criticized. In particular, a lot of Italian lawyers report that this compulsory insurance policy will just provide for a growing number of disputes between professionals and dissatisfied customers.
