Important Changes in Panamanian Trademark Law

The legislature of the Republic of Panama has recently approved several amendments to the Trademark Law. As of October 8th, 2012: Notarization and legalization of Power of Attorney have been eliminated. The requirement of a Certificate of Good Standing and Legal Representation has been eliminated. In the case of foreign applicants a designation of a local address for service must be made. Multiclass applications are allowed. Use of the trademark must be local. Registration of License of use agreement are no longer mandatory. Commercial names are protected without registration.
