The European Court of Justice ruled that any name capable to recall "Parmigiano" is banned for cheese trading in Europe, e.g. the "Parmesan" cheese on the German market was infringing "Parmigiano" DOP rights. Paola De Castro, Italian Minister for Agriculture, remarked it as a turning point in Brand Protection.
