EGYPT has become the 79th Contracting Parties of the Madrid Protocol

On June 3, 2009, the Government of Egypt ratified the Madrid Protocol concerning the International Registration of Marks and on the 3rd of September 2009 Egypt will become, with all effects, part of the Madrid Protocol and will benefit from the important innovations offered by the Protocol. First of these advantages is the possibility to obtain with a single filing, carried out by the National Trademark Office, protection in potentially all the Contracting Parties, as if many filings were done in all the member countries. The Madrid system for the international registration of trademarks (the Madrid system) established in 1891, functions under the Madrid Agreement (1891), and the Madrid Protocol (1989). It is administered by the International Bureau of WIPO located in Geneva, Switzerland.
