Chile and Peru Accedes to WIPO’s Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)

Chile and Peru became the 140th and 141st contracting states of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) when it deposited its instrument of accession at WIPO on March 6, 2009. The Treaty entered into force for Chile on June 2 and for Peru on June 6, 2009. The accession by Peru means that in any international application filed Peru is automatically designated and elected in any demand for international preliminary examination filed in respect of an international application filed. Also, as of that date, nationals and residents of Peru will themselves be able to file PCT applications.
