Carlton Banks VS Fortnite

Alfonso Ribeiro, the actor also known as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, is suing Epic Games, the creator of the popular video game Fortnite, Battle Royale. The lawsuit focuses on Ribeiro's famous dance move known as "The Carlton" that Epic Games included as a microtransaction in Fortnite without his consent; Mr. Ribeiro is now seeking to prevent the sale or inclusion of the dance in the game,as well as damages. Ribeiro first performed the dance move in 1991 during the Christmas episode 1991 of Fresh Prince. According to the lawsuit "Twenty-seven years later, The Dance remains distinctive, immediately recognizable, and inextricably linked to Ribeiro's identity, celebrity, and likeness," and "Epic intentionally induces others to perform these dances and mark them with those hashtags, which give attribution to and endorse Fortnite the game," as "Epic has consistently sought to exploit African-American talent, in particular in Fortnite, by copying their dances and movements and sell them through emotes." The lawsuit follows other two similar lawsuits, the dance move the "Milly Rock" and the dance the "Floss" which Fortnite helped make famous. Consequently the developer of the game created a contest where the fans of the video games can compete and create new dance moves.
