Brexit update (30/01/2020)

Under the withdrawal agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom, the latter will leave the European Union on 1 February 2020.
This agreement provides for a transition period that will end on 31 December 2020, during which EU law will continue to apply for the United Kingdom and its territory. This provision also applies to EUTM and DMC legislation and related implementation tools.
The continued application of the regulations on European Union trademarks and Community designs during this transition period concerns all validation and procedural provisions, as well as the rules relating to representation in proceedings before the EUIPO.
Therefore, until the end of the transition period, all proceedings before the Office relating to grounds of refusal affecting the territory of the United Kingdom, earlier rights arising in the United Kingdom, or parties / representatives domiciled in the United Kingdom will be carried out regularly.
All official communications published so far relating exclusively to the UK withdrawal scenario without an agreement have become obsolete and should not be considered.
