Brazil joins WIPO's International Trademark System

Upon signature of the accession document by the president Bolsonaro, Brazil has become the latest country to join the system for the international registration of marks administered by WIPO. As a consequence, in the process of filing an international application under the Madrid Protocol, trademark owners will be now entitled to extend protection also to the Brazilian territory (with no need to file a separate application with the Brazilian Office).
The Madrid System will enter into force for Brazil on October 2, 2019.
